EPA Lead Renovation
|
IT’S The Law! Federal law requires contractors that disturb painted surfaces in homes, child care facilities and schools, built before 1978 to be certified and follow specific work practices to prevent lead contamination. Always ask to see your contractor’s certification. Federal law requires that individuals receive certain information before renovating more than six square feet of painted surfaces in a room for interior projects or more than twenty square feet of painted surfaces for exterior projects or window replacement or demolition in housing, child care facilities and schools built before 1978. • Homeowners and tenants: renovators must give you this pamphlet before starting work. • Child care facilities, including preschools and kindergarten classrooms, and the families of children under six years of age that attend those facilities: renovators must provide a copy of this pamphlet to child care facilities and general renovation information to families whose children attend those facilities. |

Dear Customers, As of April 22, 2012 This test/report must be filed with the EPA and a copy of the report will be given to the home owner and a copy will be kept with the tester and another to the construction firm. If this test comes back negative you can proceed with your project, but only in the area where the test was taken. Just because the test came back negative in that location DOES NOT mean that the rest of the house is Lead-Base paint free. If this test comes back Hot, (which mean there is Lead in the paint) you, the home owner must read the pamphlet on Renovate Right, Important Lead Hazard Information for Families, Child Care Providers and Schools, which the certified tester will give you. PDF file, ( http://www.epa.gov/lead/pubs/renovaterightbrochure.pdf ) The EPA's hotline is 1-800-424-5323 for additional information. The lead-based paint test that is being perform in your house, only allows for that certified tester to supervise any renovation done. If you choose another supervisor/contractor he or she with their certified number, must re-test for lead-based paint which could add another cost to your project. The cost for this test is $250.00 which is paid for in full before the test is done. If the test comes back negative, and we carry out your project, we will credit you back 50%. The tester will test in two locations. If more testing is to be done in other parts of the house there's additional $25.00 for each location. This test will leave a discolor spot about the size of a silver dollar on your wall which will be repair by others and is not included in the cost above. |
